4/28/08 Bu15 team reaches CAL CUP – Semi Finals
As the weekend concluded the RSM Storm Bu15 wrapped up the spring campaign by advancing to the SEMI-FINALS of the California Cup event, only falling short on the final day 1-3 to eventual Champion FC Internationl Milan. It was the second time in the tournament that the two teams had faced one another having tied 2-2 during group play last weekend.
After going undefeated in group play, it took 90 minutes versus Real Madrid FC in Saturday's Quarter-Final as the teams battled to a 3-3 draw and the match was eventually decided in PK's, where the RSM Storm boys converted all 5 of their spot kicks to move on to win 5-3 and advance to the semi-finals. After two long weekends battling the heat, injuries and other exterior factors, the RSM Storm squad came up one match short from reaching the championship match.
However, Coach Tom Wall was pleased with their overall performance. He said, "The effort of the team over the past two weekend's was outstanding. We played excellent competition throughout and proved that we can compete and get positive results. These boys have set a high standard for themselves to build on as they look forward to the summer tournaments and beyond."
The RSM Storm Bu15 team made all the club proud by advancing to a cup final, the next few weeks will bring deserved rest and regeneration and will allow the boys to regroup-refocus their efforts to this summers tournament calendar. “these boys progressed nicely throughout the event and showed the necessary self discipline, quality work ethic and perseverance to advance just short of the final, it was a collective team effort and a positive example to the rest of the club was highly present” said Shaun Harris DOC-Technical Director. The California Cup event is a spinoff of the State/Open Cup format and the quality of competition is no less – for the Bu15 team to advance to a cup final was a tremendous result after two weekends of gritty determination, well done boys you did RSM Storm proud…
