5/25/08 Gu15 team finishes Runner-Up at Irvine Memorial Classic

 Irvine, CA over this past holiday weekend RSM Storm embarked on its first spring tune-up event for the upcoming competitive summer tournament schedule. The weekend’s success was highlighted by the Gu15 team not losing in pool play and tallying 3 straight shutouts to cruise into the final. In the final, a questionable first half goal due to offsides was given for a 0-1 lead for their opponents until a second half equalizer by RSM Storm and a constant barrage of shots only to see the game finish 1-1, in dramatic fashion RSM Storm Gu15 girls trying to defend their Spring Cup championship fell short 2-3 on penalties. An overall worthy effort and with only one goal allowed all tournament and in goal and defensively they proved to be solid. The weekend didn’t finish their, three other teams (bu9-bu10 and gu12) all finishing top3 within their groups and just coming up short of the finals due to tournament format (10point system) and single bracket format. “Overall all of or teams seemed to do well, the opportunity to get in a late spring event and allow coaches to evaluate their teams against quality opponents will only help players to develop and coaches to find the right mix leading to our upcoming summer tournament schedule” said Shaun Harris RSM Storm DOC-Technical Director, he added “our goal now is to evaluate and progress, continue with our strategy of development so when games are to be counted for promotion and cup titles our teams are at their peak and are given the best opportunity to succeed.” The effort by all RSM Storm players and teams was quality on the weekend and the support from family and friends allows us to continue to build and grow, the weather cooperated and the soccer was good – a good weekend for all…
