8/5/08 RSM Storm find SUCCESS in San Diego
RSM Storm finds SUCCESS throughout the many venues
and among its teams at the Del Mar Cup in San Diego,
CA. The weekend’s activities began with players and
teams arriving Friday night in order to prepare for
the weekend. The weekend kicked off Saturday morning
and went through Monday for some teams. With the club
traveling as a group the culture was good throughout,
with players competing within their age groups and
then watching and supporting other RSM teams within
their success throughout the weekend. The results
were once again progressive and with six teams
reaching semi-finals and three teams finishing as
finalist, two reaching cup finals.
On the boys side the bu9 finished the weekend by
competing and reaching the semi-finals their best
performance of the summer, the bu10 team also with
similar progress from their last event also reaching
the semi-finals, the bu11 team after winning the 07’
Del Mar Cup fell just short of defending their title
going 3-0 in pool play, winning within the semi-finals
and a 0-0 full time result led only to 3-4 defeat on
penalties in the final but reaching the final for two
straight years they once again saw success, the bu12
team possibly the most progressive and surprise team
of the weekend reached their first final going
undefeated in pool play, winning their semi-finals and
only to fall short in the final but a very successful
weekend for the group as a whole, the bu14 team
winning their consolation game and the bu16 also
reaching positive progress only to fall short in the
semi-finals. With 5/6 boys teams reaching the
semi-finals and/or finals a very successful weekend.
On the girls side the gu9 preparing themselves for the
season allowed them once again to get much needed
games in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming
fall and their entry into competitive soccer was
positive, the gu10 finishing 2nd overall and just
short of winning their first cup as a group in only
their second event maybe the surprise team within the
girls side as the group has seemed to come together
quite well, the gu11 reaching the semi-finals for
their second straight year at Del Mar, the gu12
finishing strong with positive results from game one
through three and gaining a result in their final
game, gu13 also undefeated in their second straight
event and with only one loss all spring and summer a
0-0 semi final game led only to falling just short of
the final due to a 3-4 penalty result, the gu14 team
in maybe the toughest bracket proved they can compete
game in and game out and also with determination
throughout the weekend found a way to get a result and
stay competitive, the gu16 team also playing against
some of SD’s best teams also found a way to meet tough
competition in order to prepare them for the upcoming
fall.
Overall the weekend very successful for all of RSM
Storm players and with many of the families present to
cheer on their children and siblings a good club and
community atmosphere for all to be a part of. RSM has
prepared well and can now get back to training and
prepare for the upcoming fall only a month a way.
GOOD LUCK to all of our teams come September…
